In August 2002 I had an opportunity to act as translator and tour guide for a bear hunt in Russia. The deal was I got to join the hunting party (most of whom wish to remain anonymous) all expenses paid, including 1st class air r/t. We spent a few days in St. Petersburg visiting friends and touring. Then we drove about 300KM
east to a small village near a 'hunting reserve', kinda like a national park. We stayed in a nice very 'Russian' style lodge where we met the 'hunt guides'. We saw and sighted several bears but no one actually shot one.
